Another user had changed the infobox result summary to include "decisive" which I have removed. I cited the result with the NPS cite battle description, which I believe is still the last consensus reached regarding battle outcomes we use. However, the Aftermath section of this article does state "decisive" in its wording. I believe this should be reworded to align with the NPS usage, or failing that supported by reliable secondary sources. I'll reword in a few days if no one objects. This is one of many articles that is insufficiently referenced and cited. I do not recall where that particular sentence came from -- in fact, consulting the article history reveals that I wrote the article originally. I suspect it was an example of the early days of Wikipedia in which we made very liberal use of National Park Service public domain text, respecting copyright conventions, but ignoring the taint of plagiarism. In any event, Champion Hill is an example of a battle that was arguably the decisive point in this campaign, because Pemberton really had no chance for victory after that point. Whether it was decisive in terms of bringing the war to a conclusion is also arguable. Since the term "decisive victory" is ambiguous in that way, it would make sense to keep it out of the information box and stick with the NPS summary. I have no problem with using the term in the Aftermath section as long as it is clear that "decisive" applies to the campaign and not more expansive meanings. Update as of October 2012

[edit]

The Coker House has been completely rebuilt using some original materials; relevant plaques state that rehab. was impossible. I have a photo. I also have a photo taken from roughly the PoV of the Davis sketch that is strikingly IDENTICAL: I propose putting it in here. Any objections?

Your proposed action does not seem controversial enough to warrant a discussion prior to implementation. Go for it and if anyone really objects after seeing the photograph, they can take action then. Hal Jespersen (talk) 18:34, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
